Player Placement

If a player registers by the registration deadline, he or she WILL be on a team. If a player registers after the deadline, he or she will be placed on a waiting list and may be put on a team if space is available. TO ENSURE YOUR CHILD IS PLACED ON A TEAM, REGISTER BEFORE THE DEADLINE!!!

MAJORS, MINORS, JUNIORS

Majors, Minors, and Juniors are drafted divisions. This means that the team managers take turns selecting players from a pool of eligible players until their teams are full (usually 12 players per team). NOT EVERY PLAYER ELIGIBLE WILL BE DRAFTED INTO THE DIVISION HE OR SHE DESIRES. There are rules requiring mandatory placement of certain players in specific divisions. Otherwise, there are no guarantees and there is no appeal process from the draft. The draft is confidential and final.

Rules for Mandatory Placement into Drafted Divisions:

(NOTE: All ages referred to here are players' League Age - see how to calculate that on our FAQ page.)

Juniors: All League Age 13 and 14-year-olds that register on time will play in the Juniors division. The draft will determine which players are on which teams.

Majors: The following categories of mandatory placement exist for Majors Division:

A) All League Age 12-year-olds that register on time will play in the Majors division, unless a waiver requested by the family to play in a lower division is approved by the Board.

B) All players of League Age 12 and under that played in Truckee Little League Majors division the previous spring will play in the Majors division. (Playing in fall ball Majors does not guarantee placement in the Majors division in spring.)

C) All League Age 11-year-olds that have played TWO years in Truckee Little League spring Minors division will be drafted into the Majors division unless they choose to play again in Minors division. ALL listed elements must be satisfied to obtain mandatory placement standing in category C. If the number of available spaces in Majors does not permit placing all such 11-yr-olds, the Board may modify the mandatory placement criteria to include only 6th graders or other categorization at its discretion.

Minors: The following categories of mandatory placement exist for Minors Division:

A) All League Age 11-year-olds not drafted into the Majors division will play in the Minors division, unless a waiver requested by the family to play in a lower division is approved by the Board.

B) All players of League Age 11 and under that played in Truckee Little League Minors division the previous spring will play in the Minors division if not drafted into Majors. (Playing in fall ball Minors does not guarantee placement in the Minors division in spring.)

C) All League Age 10-year-olds that have played TWO years in Truckee Little League spring AAA division will be drafted into the Minors division unless they choose to play again in AAA division. ALL listed elements must be satisfied to obtain mandatory placement standing in category C. If the number of available spaces in Minors does not permit placing all such 10-yr-olds, the Board may modify the mandatory placement criteria to include only 5th graders or other categorization at its discretion.

TRYOUTS ARE MANDATORY FOR DRAFTED DIVISIONS.

A player will not be eligible for the draft if he or she does not attend tryouts, unless he or she is in mandatory placement category A or B described above. Players in category C MUST attend tryouts to take advantage of the mandatory placement option. Players in mandatory placement categories A and B are still expected to attend tryouts to ensure a fair draft. If your child absolutely CANNOT attend tryouts, you MUST contact the Player Agent (playeragent@truckeelittleleague.com) BEFORE tryouts to discuss if alternative arrangements can be made. If not in mandatory categories A or B, your child WILL NOT BE INCLUDED IN THE DRAFT if he or she does not attend tryouts and you have not contacted the Player Agent.

AAA, AA, Tee Ball, Rookies

Players in AAA, AA, Tee Ball, and Rookies are placed on teams by a subcommittee of the TLL Board, which includes the president and/or VP, the player agents, and the division coordinators. The goal of the subcommittee is to create teams that are balanced in terms of skill, experience and age. Slight variations in the placement process occur in the different divisions.

AAA: Players in AAA will include those players who played AAA the previous year and did not get drafted into Minors as well as players who played AA the previous year and are determined by the subcommittee to be qualified to move up into AAA. Assessments of qualifications are based on tryout evaluations carried out by a team of independent league evaluators, coach evaluations from the previous season, and age. Players who played AA the previous year and wish to move into AAA division MUST attend tryouts. Players who are League Age 9- or 10-years-old that were not drafted into Minors will be placed in AAA division unless a waiver is requested by the family to play in a lower division. Requests for specific teammates and/or coaches will NOT be considered in AAA. Not all players requesting to play in AAA division will be placed there.

AA: Players in AA will include those players who played AA the previous year and were not placed in AAA division, as well as players who played Tee Ball the previous season and are determined by the subcommittee to be qualified to move up into AA. Assessments of qualifications are based on coach evaluations from the previous season and age. League Age eight-year-olds who are not placed in AAA division will be placed in AA. League Age six- and seven-year-olds with one year of Tee Ball experience will be placed in AA. Requests for ONE specific teammate will be considered but are not guaranteed. Requests for specific coaches will NOT be considered in AA.

Tee Ball: League Age six- and seven-year-olds with no baseball experience will be placed in Tee Ball. League Age five-year-olds with Rookies experience will be placed in Tee Ball. Requests for ONE specific teammate will be considered but are not guaranteed. Requests for specific coaches will NOT be considered in Tee Ball.

Rookies: There are no set teams in Rookies. All players play together in the division. League Age four-year-olds,  and League Age five-year-olds with no experience, will be placed in Rookies.
